Researchers reporting in the Journal of Refractive Surgery (Yu et. al., May 2008) conclude that high patient satisfaction can be obtained with both customized (wavefront-guided) LASIK and from standard LASIK for the treatment of nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism.
Dr. Jonathan Davidorf agrees: “It is important that each patient is treated in a customized manner, but the best treatment is not always a “custom” (wavefront) ablation. For a given patient, wavefront guided custom LASIK may be best, but, for another patient, a standard LASIK treatment may be optimal. With a detailed preoperative evaluation, we can determine the preferred approach for each individual.”
